Panaad boxing tourney

BY NIDA BUENAFE

With four of its boxers winning the gold and one pug taking home the silver, Escalante City was declared overall champion in this year’s Panaad Sa Negros Amateur Boxing Tournament at the Cabana Area of Pana-ad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.

Sagay City finished first runner-up two gold medals and four bronzes.

Escalante’s Mark Anthony Camacho, Ronnie Morata, James Mahinay and Roldan Aldea defeated their respective opponents in their weight categories to deliver the gold for Escalante.

Despite claiming victory in the semis Wednesday, Escalante’s Sandy Mojillo failed to sustain his winning streak and settled for silver in his bout against Candoni’s Marbel John Panoga of Candoni.

Bacolod City boxers booked two gold medals with the triumphs of Gil Jamili III and Aljun Oro in the 28 kgs. and 39 kgs., respectively.

Jamili beat Cuayan’s Rambo Mingis while Oro conquered Alexis Magno of La Castellana.

Sagaynons Arnold Jetajobe and and Joemarie Julom won over their opponents Bagoeño Nel Tambanillo and  Murciahanon Roger Villarosa.

Meanwhile, spikers from Silay City asserted their dominance in volleyball competition with convincing victories against Negros Occidental High School and Talisay City in the finals.

Silay girls held off NOHS, 25-20, 27-25, to claim the gold while their teammates in the boys’ department tamed Talisay, 25-19, 25-14, 25-16.*APN
