The Philippine Mental Health Association Negros Occidental-Bacolod Chapter, in partnership with the Bacolod City Gender and Development Council, recently launched a lecture-forum, “Mid-Life Challenge,” at the barangay hall of Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod , a PMHA press release said.
The activity was in line with the celebration of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence, on the theme: “Commit. Act. Demand: We can End Violence Against Women.”
GAD Council Chairman Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, delivered the opening message and Dr. Charibel Escandelor, psychiatrist, spoke on the physical, intellectual, social, and psychological developments men and women in their middle aged years normally undergo, as well as issues regarding menopause and how to cope.
The female participants aged 40 and above, were barangay employees and health workers.
Facilitators of the program were PMHA chapter executive manager Rose Jessica Octaviano, administrative assistant Maritess Benares, program officer Harold Villanueva, and Cynthia Peñafiel, the press release said.*

Bacolod 's awards
Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia thanked the Department of Interior and Local Government for the recent awards received by the city, and said they are validations of the work of his administration.
“The awards belong to our people, especially to our government employees,” he said in a City Hall press release.
Bacolod recently received the Pagdayaw Award as the Best Performing City in Economic Development as part of its Search for Excellence in Local Governance.
Bacolod City was also second runner-up as best performing city among the 16 cities in Western Visayas . This year's Excell Awards also marked a first for Bacolod , that was first runner-up for excellence in social services (city category), and second runner-up for excellence in local legislation.
In 2007, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry awarded Bacolod as the Most Business Friendly City in the Philippines, and the award was given by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.*

Art exhibit opens today
Thirteen Negros artists will showcase their artworks in a group exhibition titled “Give Art on X'mas Day!” at the Salvarita Art Gallery at Eusebio Arcade (former Casa Noble), Lacson Street, in Bacolod City 6 p.m. today, a press release from SAG said.
The exhibiting artists include Nunelucio Alvarado, Moreen Austria , Edmund Bacia, Rommel Clavecillas, Nilda Claveraz, Fred Juson, Rodney Martinez, Maowi Palacios, Razcel Salvarita, Rianne Salvarita, Roger Salvarita, Leah Samson, and Orville Visitacion.
The exhibit will run until January 17.*
