Cop detained

A policeman is now detained in the lock-up cell of Police Station 1 after allegedly assaulting his colleague, who had apprehended him for creating alarm and scandal in a store in Bacolod City yesterday.

Senior Police Officer 1 Vicente Canuday identified the apprehended policeman as Police Officer 1 Ritchard Suarez of Carmela Valley Subdivision, Talisay City , Negros Occidental, of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, and assigned at the E.B. Magalona police station.

Canuday, assistant head of the City Police Investigation and Detective Management Section Crime Against Persons, said Suarez was apprehended by the team led by Police Officer 3 Wilfredo Perez at about 6:15 a.m. on complaint of Kristelle Sa-onoy, 28, and Ian Oliveros, 17, both of Bangga Goldah, Camingawan, Brgy. Estefania, Bacolod .

Oliveros said Suarez, who was allegedly under the influence of liquor, entered their store, showed his gun, and threatened him and their customers, while Sa-onoy claimed that the policeman made indecent motions with his fingers and tongue.

Canuday said Police Officer 1 Dax Santillan, one of the apprehending officers, subdued Suarez who attempted to fight with them by drawing his gun. Suarez also badmouthed and tried to box Santillan when they reached police station 1, he said.

Because Suarez was unruly, Police Station 1 chief Senior Insp. Luisito Acebuche ordered Police Officer 1 Nelgin Bermejo to put him in jail, and he also uttered unpleasant words to Bermejo .

A .45 caliber pistol with serial number 10866165, two magazines of the same caliber and four cans of Redhorse beer were taken from the backpack of Suarez.

Canuday said that, in August last year, Raffy Fuentespina also complained against Suarez and a traffic enforcer, claiming that they robbed him of P1,500 in cash while he was at Cuadra Street , but the case was dismissed.

Chief Insp. Samuel Mina, head of the E.B. Magalona police, has agreed to file charges against Suarez.

Insp. Robert Dejucos, head, NOPPO investigation branch, said Provincial Police Director Senior Supt. Manuel Felix has instructed him to file appropriate charges against Suarez.

Dejucos said they will proceed with the administrative investigation, as it is inappropriate for a police officer, who is under the influence of liquor, to carry a firearm and threaten civilians.

Suarez refused to comment on the accusations against him when the media tried to get his side*APN
