A Thanksgiving Mass for the 30th anniversary of Bacolod Bishop Vicente Navarra’s episcopal ordination was celebrated at the San Sebastian Cathedral on June 24.
The prelate also opened the universal celebration of the “Year of the Priest” and the year of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
In attendance were the Knights of St. Gregory, Knight Commander Order of Pope St. Sylvester, St. Vincent de Paul, Capuchins Tertiary Sisters, friends from Silay and Talisay City, Blessed Virgin Missionaries of Carmel, Papal Awardees Concepcion 1st Missionaries Sisters, and almost all priests of the Diocese and the churchgoers.
Navarra is the fifth Bishop of the San Sebastian Cathedral and the Bacolod Diocese. He was born January 22, 1939, ordained priest April 7, 1962 and ordained Bishop 1979.
After the Mass a long queue awaited the Bishop for the blessings. Everybody was accommodated.
Then it was up to the third floor of the parish building where a delicious lunch was served. The venue hall was beautifully decorated with flaglets and balloons. Two buffet tables awaited the visitors and at the end corner, were mouth-watering desserts, native food, and cakes.
A school song and dance program entertained the visitors.
The very busy bishop also presided over the blessing and grand opening of Pax Catholic Academy on June 11 and he decreed Pulupandan’s secondary patron – St. John the Baptist – next to Our Lady of Lourdes. He also decreed the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help formerly Redemptorist church as a Diocesan Shrine
To Bishop Navarra, may you have more years to serve the Diocese of Bacolod.
Remember: A Christian’s life is a window through which others can see Jesus. We must choose daily the way of the cross over the way of the crowd.*
