2 killed in Silay accident

Two Saraviahanons died in a vehicular accident Wednesday night, along the national highway of Silay City, Negros Occidental, the police reported yesterday.

The two were identified by the Silay police as Jose Toledo and Russel Demapanagan,  residents of Brgy. Tanza, E..B. Magalona.

Supt. Jerry Bartolome, Silay police chief,  said  the victims were on a motorcycle that crashed into the rear of a cargo truck in Brgy. Lantad, Silay City.

The victims were declared dead on arrival at the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital, about 500 meters away from the scene of incident, Bartolome said.

The driver of the cargo truck identified as Jeremias Flores is  detained at the lock-up cell of the Silay police, pending the filing of charges against him for reckless imprudence resulting to double homicide, Chief Inspector Rico Santotome, Negros Occidental PNP spokesman, said.

NOPPO records show that 28 persons were killed, while 126 others had been injured, in 36 vehicular accidents in Negros Occidental, within the first four months of 2009. *GPB
