Brigada Eskwela
launching set

BY MARICAR ARANAS

The Department of Education-Negros Oriental Division will launch the Brigada Eskwela 2009 on Monday at the Lamberto Macias Sports and Cultural Center, Capitol Area, Dumaguete City.

About 2,000 participants from all DepEd districts in the province will join a caravan from Canlaon City to Mabinay and Sibulan towns in the north, and Basay to Dumaguete City in the south.

Provincial Division supervisor Dr. Milagros Velez said she invited teachers and officers of the Parents Teachers Association to the celebration.

Caravan participants will converge at the Kagawasan Avenue. One of the highlights of the event is the signing of commitment by the DepEd division supervisors, teachers, parents association and stakeholders.

The Brigada Eskwela is a program of the DepEd encouraging parents and the community to help in preparing the classroom for the opening of classes in June.

Some of the activities are repainting and rehabilitation of chairs, desk and tables, and overall cleaning of classrooms and the school premises.

The DepEd also encouraged parents to enroll their children in school in line with the campaign for kids to be in school and not roaming around.

Reps. Josy Limkaichong, George Arnaiz and Henry Pryde Teves are also expected to the launching.

The three solons have pushed for the release of the budget for DepEd Negros Oriental, and the implementation of the hot meal feeding program to all elementary schools beginning June.*MA
