Truck falls into ravine;
Soldier killed, 16 hurt


An Army Scout Ranger trooper died, and 16 of his colleagues were hurt when their vehicle plunged into a ravine in Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental, at 3 a.m. yesterday.

Col. Maximo Caro, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, confirmed last night the death of PFC Diosan, at the Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital in Bacolod City.

PFC Eric Limpiado, who is also confined in the same hospital and was earlier reported to be in critical condition, is now stable.moremoremore

Motel building permit suspended

The Office of the Building Official has suspended the building permit of an 81-room motel being constructed at Gatuslao Extension in Brgy. 6, Bacolod City on Sept. 22, pending the submission of an amended certificate of non-coverage by the builders.

The construction of the Bacolod Imperial Court Inc. was met with opposition by various women’s groups in the city because of its proximity to a school.

A request for an amendment of the CNC from commercial building to motel building was submitted by the BICI before the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Office VI on Sept. 25.moremoremore

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is scheduled to arrive in Negros Occidental on October 15 for the inauguration of two bridges and to attend the Moises Padilla fiesta, her brother-in-law Rep. Ignacio “Iggy” Arroyo Jr. (Neg. Occ., 5th District) said yesterday.

The president will inaugurate a bridge in Bagroy that connects Binalbagan and Isabela, and another in Bagacay, Hinigaran, he said.

She is also scheduled to visit Bago City, the solon added.moremoremore
