The Rural Bank of Marayo was adjudged by Land Bank of the Philippines as the Most Outstanding Countryside Financial Institution nationwide, its chairman, Franklin Fuentebella said yesterday.
Marayo Bank bested 388 Rural Banks, other Savings Banks, and Thrift Banks assisted by Land Bank for the Calendar Year 2008, a press release from the bank said.
The bank also garnered two other awards, as the Most Outstanding Rural Bank in Western Visayas and for Best in Capital Build-up nationwide.
The recent awarding rites at the President Diosdado Macapagal Hall of Land Bank Plaza, Malate, Manila was attended by the Secretary of Department of Finance and Land Bank chairman Margarito Teves, officers of the Rural Bankers Association, Chamber of Thrift Banks and senior officers of Land Bank led by its president Gilda Pico.
The awards were accepted by Fuentebella.
On Nov. 18, Marayo Bank will celebrate its 40th year anniversary.
In all these years, it has played a vital role in promoting and developing the countryside economy through its agro-commercial loans, pension, and Department of Education salary loans, Fuentebella said.
Its main branch is in Pontevedra, Negros Occidental with Vicente Javellana Jr., as manager, with branches in EB Magalona with Onofre Gestat Jr., and in Banate, Iloilo with Ellen Faith Tan as managers, respectively.
The members of the bank’s Board of Directors are Fuentebella – chairman, Jesus Campos Jr. – president, Lucia Villafranca – treasurer, Aurora Ll. Fuentebella – secretary, and Teresa Ortiz, Grace Escario, Joebert Cuaycong, and Angela Caram, as directors.*
