Mayor likens Rizal to comet
The 114th death anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal was marked yesterday by officials of Bacolod City and other stakeholders, a city hall press release said.
Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia, who led local officials, representatives from non-government organizations and other government agencies, in his speech, compared Rizal’s brilliance to a comet.
“Rizal’s coming to the world is likened to a comet whose brilliance flashes only every so often,” Leonardia said.

Army waging
new campaign
BY GILBERT BAYORAN
The Army’s 3rd Infantry Division has adopted a new paradigm shift in its internal security campaign against the remaining New People’s Army in Western Visayas next year, by “winning the peace”, its commander, Major General Vicente Porto, said.
“The coming year is an opportunity to professionalize our soldiers through a paradigm shift that will transform our perspectives on the 40-year-old insurgency, and eventually see an end to the conflict,” Porto said.
“Oplan Bayanihan”, Porto said, focuses on winning the peace, instead of defeating the enemy.
