| IN NEG.OR Dumaguete City and some areas in Negros Oriental yesterday received poor ratings from a renowned marine biologist and respected environmentalist for their efforts in responding to the global concern of climate change. Dr. Angel Alcala, former Philippine environment secretary and now director of the Silliman University Angelo King Center for Research and Environmental Management, gave barely passing marks to these local government units, and urged local officials to go into more aggressive efforts against climate change. “The mayors are not educating their constituents on climate change and the dangers of flooding and water intrusion,” Alcala said at a press conference attended by officials of Silliman University, the World Bank-Philippines and Smart Communications. | ||||||||||||||||
