The Negros Occidental and Bacolod police are on full alert for the arrival of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, who is visiting Teleperformance Philippines in Bacolod City, this afternoon as part of her nationwide cyber corridor tour.
She is scheduled to arrive at the Bacolod-Silay Airport at 2 p.m. and motor to Teleperformance, where she will be welcomed by Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia, Rep. Monico Puentevella, Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, Junie Lizares – manager of the Luxur IT Park, and David Rizzo – president of Asia Pacific Teleperformance.
The president will then tour the business process outsourcing facility and join a short program where she will be welcomed by Leonardia.
Leonardia yesterday said he is elated that the President has included Bacolod City in her cyber corridor tour.
It is a recognition of Bacolod as one of the rising luminaries in the information technology business that has been a big boost to the economy of the city, he said.
Bacolod City has been ranked number 5 in the Top 10 Next Wave Cities for the best BPO locations in the country, he pointed out.
Gov. Isidro Zayco will deliver a message, and Batapa-Sigue will give a briefing on the Information Technology-Business Process Outsourcing industry in Bacolod as chair of the Bacolod-Negros Occidental Federation for Information and Communications Technology and give some national inputs as chair of the National ICT Confederation of the Philippines.
NICP would like the president to do all she can to help establish a Department of ICT, because the ICT-BPO industry, especially in the countryside, is concerned about the continuity and strengthening of the industry under a new president, Batapa-Sigue said.
The president’s advance party said she may opt to converse with beneficiaries of the BPO facility and to conduct an informal media interaction before leaving.
Senior Supt. Manuel Felix, Negros Occidental provincial police director, and Senior Supt. Celestino Guara, Bacolod police officer-in-charge, said their forces are going on full alert today to secure the president during her visit to Bacolod.*CPG
