BIR gets new head
PUBLIC CAMPAIGN LAUNCH TOMORROW

Araceli Francisco has been appointed new regional director of the Bureau of Internal Revenue Region 12.

Francisco took over from Jose Tan at rites held at O Hotel in Bacolod City Monday, a BIR press release yesterday said.

Tan turned over the symbolic key to his successor before transferring to Revenue Region No. 13, Cebu City, to assume the same post he held before being assigned in Bacolod City in 2009.  

Francisco was the regional director of BIR Revenue Region 14, in Tacloban City, before taking over Revenue Region 12 that covers Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, and Siquijor.

DOT: ‘Makeover’
for Boracay

The Philippines’ premier tourism destination Boracay Island is experiencing a much-needed “makeover” with the on-going comprehensive infrastructure program which will to provide 100 percent water supply and sewerage coverage to the entire community, a press release from the Department of Tourism said.  

Increased water efficiency will make a significant difference to the island, ensuring the availability of safe, potable water, and addressing the concern of water pollution, a concern in Boracay for sometime, the DOT said.

The project is led by the Boracay Island Water Company Inc., a joint venture company between Manila Water Company, Inc. and the Philippine Tourism Authority.

SMART turns
over facilities

Smart Communications Inc. recently turned over a Materials Recovery Facility and a pulverizer to residents of the PLDT-SMART Amazing Gawad Kalinga village in Barangay Sooc, Arevalo, Iloilo City, a press release from the firm said.

Both facilities are part of SMART’s efforts to implement a solid waste management program in the village, as well as give residents an alternative source of livelihood.

The residents store residual waste that can neither be recycled nor composted in the MRF.
