Guv to pull out son
from Sagarbarria slate
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

A major realignment of political forces is expected in Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental with Gov. Emilio Macias II pulling out his son, Board Member Erwin Macias, who is running for city councilor, from the line-up of Councilor Manuel Chiquiting Sagarbarria, who is running for mayor.

The governor, who confirmed this yesterday, explained that he cannot expect a 100 percent support from the group due to the presence of Dan Teves Leon and George Villamor, who are both related to the Teveses.

He said he is doing this to make the playing field equal for his son and the rest of the council members.

The military has been placed on hightened alert following reports on the presence of armed men, allegedly harassing supporters of a congressional candidate in the hinterland barangays of the first district of Negros Oriental.

This was confirmed yesterday by Lt. Col Ramil Bitong, commanding officer of the 11th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army based in Mackinely, Guihulngan City.

Bitong said he is verifying the reports to determine whether the armed men are terrorist dissidents, or goons of politicians.
