Soldier nabbed for
gun ban violation

A Philippine Army soldier was arrested Tuesday in Brgy. 1, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, for violation of the Commission on Elections gun ban.

Chief Inspector Rico Santotome, provincial police spokesman, yesterday identified the arrested soldier as Corporal Larry Villaruz, 36, a member of the 61st Infantry Battalion Headquarters Service Company, stationed in Brgy. Tiling, Cauayan, in the province.

Villaruz was the first soldier assigned in Negros to be arrested for violation of the Comelec gun ban, His apprehension brought to 27 the number of violators arrested since Jan. 10, police records show.

Santotome said Villaruz was arrested at a restaurant at Guanzon Street in Kabankalan City,, for carrying a .45 caliber pistol with 12 rounds of ammunition.

Villaruz is now detained at the Kabankalan City police station.

Senior Supt. Manuel Felix, provincial police director of Negros Occidental, ordered the Kabankalan police to immediately file charges against Villaruz for violation of the Comelec gun ban.*GPB
