Rams post
back-to-back win in TKP

BY NDIA BUENAFE

After a rousing victory over Toyota Bacolod/CSA-B, UNO-Recoletos went on to beat Red Phoenix, 83-77, to stay in contention for the Class A crown in 10th Tank Kek Pin Memorial Cup Basketball Tournament at Bacolod Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.

The Rams issued early notice of its bid to overpower Red Phoenix by taking the first quarter, 26-18, behind the trio of Cedric Eslabon, Tata Javillo and Joemel Paderog, who scored six points apiece.

While Red Phoenix managed to regroup in the next two quarters to keep the game close, the Recoletos squad kept the lead going into the final quarter.

Servando keeps
badminton crown

With a commanding 21-10, 21-5 two-set victory in the championship round, Nikki Therese Servando turned back the challenge posed by Faith Basilio to keep the crown in Girls single 16-Under of the 4th Dinagyang Badminton Cup, recently held in Iloilo City.

A junior student of Trinity Christian School in Bacolod City, Servando, along with partner Ina Crisostomo, also bagged the gold in Girls double 16-Under. The Bacoleñas beat Faith Alijaga and Geselle Panado, 21-18, 21-8, in the final match.

The victory in the single’s category was Servando’s fourth time since she joined the tournament.

Mayweather vs.
Mosley on May 1

LAS VEGAS, Nevada – Floyd Mayweather will take on Shane Mosley in a marquee welterweight match-up on May 1, with both fighters agreeing to "Olympic-style" drug testing - an issue that ruined Mayweather's fight with Manny Pacquiao.

"This one is definitely for the fans as I wasn't going to waste anyone's time with a meaningless tune-up bout and asked to fight Shane immediately," the unbeaten Mayweather said. "I have said ever since I came back to the sport that I only wanted to fight the best. I think Shane is one of the best, but come May 1, he still won't be great enough to beat me."

For his part, Mosley insisted he "will have no problem beating him."
