‘7 WV politicians
have armed groups’
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Region 6 police director Chief Supt. Isagani Cuevas yesterday said at least seven politicians in Western Visayas are being closely monitored for allegedly maintaining partisan armed groups.

While he did not name names, Cuevas said the seven politicians who are seeking elective positions in the May 10 elections, used to have police and military escorts, who were recalled when the election period took effect Jan. 10.

Two or more escorts of a politician during the election period, whether legal or not legal, who possesses firearms legal or illegal, will be considered a partisan armed group, Cuevas said at the 19th PNP anniversary yesterday at Camp Alfredo Montelibano in Bacolod City.moremoremore

Prove hearing
authorized, solon urged
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

Bacolod Rep. Monico Puentevella should prove that he was authorized by the chairman of the Committee on Local Government to conduct the public hearing Friday on the proposed P250 million loan of the city with the Philippine Veterans Bank, Secretary to the Bacolod Mayor Vicente Petierre III said yesterday.

Petierre was reacting to the claims of Puentevella that the letter of Rep. George Arnaiz, informing the city officials that the public hearing had been cancelled, was fake.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia said if the letter of Arnaiz was fake, the committee member should have arrived Friday since it is the duty of the secretariat to conduct the hearing.moremoremore
