‘KIDNAPPING’
Vice governor unfazed
by political ‘mudslinging
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

Vice Gov. Jose Baldado yesterday said he will not allow his detractors to mar his bid as governor of Negros Oriental in the May polls through mudslinging and black propaganda and claimed he will not  engage in the same dirty tricks to manipulate the vote.

Baldado, barangay tanod Romeo Sablado of Candabong, Manjuyod town, and another unidentified person, were last week tagged as allegedly behind the kidnapping of a 14-year-old boy in that town.

Baldado,  who also hails from Manjuyod, had denied the accusations saying he was in Dumaguete  on February 15 when the purported kidnapping  took place.

IN 5 DAYS

The sudden death of Melimore Saycon, a veteran broadcast journalist of 35 years yesterday, shocked  Negros Oriental officials, provincial government employees, the local media and the entire community, still mourning the demise of  another member of the Provincial Board just five days after a colleague had passed away.

Saycon died shortly before noon yesterday even as  the  necrological services for colleague, Apolinario Arnaiz, Sr., who passed away  on  Feb. 17, was ending.

Rep. George Arnaiz of the 1st district of Negros Oriental had just finished thanking everyone for their support and sympathy and for attending the necrological services for his late father, and had just stepped down from the podium when the news broke that Saycon had died.

Three police and military officers previously assigned in Negros Occidental, were among the Philippine Military Academy Alumni Association’s Cavalier Awardees for 2010, and honored Saturday at the PMA grounds in Baguio City.

Military and police records show that the awardees, who included Defense Undersecretary Ernesto Carolina, Deputy Director General Geary Barias and Retired Police Director Leopoldo Bataoil, were recognized for their outstanding achievements, professionalism, exemplary leadership and dedication to the public service.

The Cavalier Award is given every February by the PMAAA to deserving alumni who excelled in the various fields of military and police service.
