The Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center and the Carl Lopez Micro Finance Foundation will conduct a case study on the water systems of Barangay Banago, Bacolod City to determine possible livelihood opportunities for the fisher folks, a press release from the group said.

SEAFDEC is aimed to design effective and sustainable stock enhancement programs through scientific approaches.

Dianne Turmon, a socio economist and Dr. Jobert Gaitan, a technologist went to the area for observation and evaluation on January. 14, 2010.

“We will bring all our gathered data and statistics to Iloilo where SEAFDEC-Philippines is located for analysis and evaluation. After one month, the result of the study will be released.”Turmon said.

Purok Riverside, Barangay Banago Chairman Ignacio Mahinay said his constituents are willing to form an association, which will be led by SEAFDEC and the Carl Lopez Micro Finance Foundation.

SEAFDEC has 22 centers around the world with Japan as its honorary member, the press release said.*
