Free meal feeding program starts
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The free noon meal feeding program of the national government officially started in Dumaguete City recently with 14,762 public elementary school children as beneficiaries.

The budget per child per lunch consists of mongo, rice and dried fish or “tulakhang,” the Department of Education said.

Mayor Agustin Perdices said the budget may not be enough, and he asked the Sangguniang Panlungsod for an additional appropriation per child for every meal.

Responding to the mayor’s request, the city council has appropriated P1.2 million as additional allocation for the free noon meal feeding program in Dumaguete, which will go on until March this year and another appropriation at the start of the next school year.*JG
