When they elected their new officers last Saturday, the members of the Negros Press Club, sent a strong message about the kind of members they want to choose as the bona fide officials they want to lead them, particularly the ones who are their very own.
That is why the ones who got the bigger number of votes were assured that they were the ones entitled to the leadership of the NPC, which has to keep its high standard being the oldest media organization in the country.
There is also the challenge posed to members as to how they will be able to retain their independence as far as the coming election is concerned, which those who are truly genuine members of the media, who have some other schemes that could earn them some benefits from political groups are facing. The results of the NPC latest election is being viewed by the true and idealistic members with great hope for them in their pride as the oldest club in the country.
Still another challenge, to both newly elected officers and to the members of the Membership Committee who have been retained by the rest, is for them to go over the membership of the NPC to confirm whether they can be regarded as regular members, as defined in the club’s Constitution and by-laws. This document defines very clearly who are the ones entitled to this qualification, and who can only be admitted as associate members.
As the present list had shown, there seems to be some misinterpretation as to who can truly be accepted as regular members, with voting privileges. Will the Membership Committee that has been granted the privileges and responsibility be equal to this task?*
