Aklan postpones
WVRAA in March

The scheduled Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association meet this year, to be hosted by the province of Aklan, will be held in March instead of next month, reports from the Department of Education-Aklan said.

The consensus to move the regional sports event to March 14-19 instead of an earlier date in February was confirmed by Dr. Mary Anne Lopez of DepEd Aklan said in a recent meeting.

She said that the regional sports competition among the elementary and secondary public schools throughout the region was deferred to pave way for the schedule of the National Achievement Test that will also be held in February.

Students, she said, should be given enough time to concentrate on the examination.

Lopez also said that the Calangcang Sports Complex, venue of the week-long regional sports event, is now 75 percent complete, although the overlaying of the rubberized oval was stalled due to unfavorable weather condition in the province.

She added that Aklan’s athletes have been training rigidly for the competition and training equipments and facilities are already in placed to increase their chances in improving their record in the annual meet.

She said the provincial government of Aklan is fully supportive in the sports development of the province and is not remiss in providing all the needs of athletes who will participate in the WVRAA.

Aklan, along with the province of Antique, were always on the tail-end in terms of medal standings compared to Negros, Iloilo and Capiz provinces in the past WVRAA meet.*NAB
