Inauguration of NegOr,
Dumaguete officials set

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

All is set for the inauguration of incoming provincial and local officials who will take their oaths of office today, at the Negros Oriental Convention Center.

The inauguration will start at 9 a.m. with outgoing Dumaguete City Mayor Agustin Perdices taking oath as the duly elected vice governor of the province. He will be joined by Representatives George Arnaiz (2nd district) and Pryde Henry Teves (3rd district).

Re-elected Rep. Jocelyn Limkaichong (1st district) had taken her oath of office for her second term in La Libertad, together with some newly-elected local officials of the area Sunday.

Environment month
celebration ends

Over a hundred public school students from Negros Oriental attended the closing ceremonies of the province's Environment Month celebration at the Sidlakang Negros Village, a press release from Silliman University in Duamguete City said.

The activity was highlighted by the awarding of winners in the essay writing and poster-making contests for both elementary and secondary schools, and closed the three-day exhibits on environmental initiatives of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and three universities: Foundation University, Saint Paul University-Dumaguete, and SU, the press release said.

P-Noy won’t interfere
in Lacson’s case

MANILA – President-elect Benigno ‘Noynoy’ Aquino said yesterday he will not interfere in the case of his former colleague, Senator Panfilo Lacson, who has been implicated in the twin killing of publicist Salvador ‘Bubby’ Dacer and his driver Emmanuel Corbito in 2000.

”His case is already in the court. We have prohibition to interfere,” Aquino said in a press conference after announcing the composition of his Cabinet in Quezon City.

Aquino, however, clarified that Lacson has the right to return to the country as the reports revealed that the fugitive senator is set to return right after the inauguration of Aquino as the 15th President of the country on June 30 at the newly-refurbished Quirino Grandstand.
