Nietes ready for
homecoming fight

World boxing champion Donnie Nietes arrives in Bacolod City today for the final preparations for his scheduled April 9 fight against Mexican Armando Vasquez at the University of St. La Salle Coliseum.

The duel at the USLS, is the main event for the Pinoy Pride 5: Battle of Champions co-presented by Nietes’ promoter, the Cebu-based ALA Promotions and ABS-CBN Sports.

It will the first time for Nietes to fight in 108 pounds or the light flyweight division, as he gets ready to conquer another world title after his reign as WBO minimum weight champion for more than three years.

Candles’ team leads bowlfest

Candles 13715 Charity is leading in the 22nd Knights of Columbus Inter-Council Bowling Tournament hosted by Triumph of the Holy Cross Council at the New Top’s Millennium Plaza Alley in Bacolod City.

The group led by Eric Deloria tops the overall standing with 7,747 pinfalls.

Villamonte 5665 B led by Elmer Liboon and Nerio Regollo is second with 7,707 followed by Villamonte 5665 A led by Irne Diaz and anchored by Romulo “D’Gunner’Ramos with 7,702.

KBP to hold fun run

The Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas Negros Occidental Chapter will hold its first KBP 3K “Funaad Run” on April 3, starting at 5 p.m. from the Bacolod Government Center to the Provincial Capitol lagoon.

Expected to join the event are students, sports enthusiasts, professionals, police, military, and broadcasters. The run is for the benefit of the Senior Citizens of Bacolod City and Negros Occidental.

“This is KBP’s way of welcoming and supporting the 2011 Panaad sa Negros festivities and we hope to hold the Funaad Run annually,” said Salvador “Buddy” Ferrer, chairman of KBP Neg. Occ. Chapter.
