Station 4 cop chief relieved
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

The recent incidents of rape and attempted rape in her area caused the immediate relief of Bacolod City Police Station 4 chief, Senior Insp. Leilani Garcia, effective today, City Police Director Senior Supt. Ricardo de la Paz said yesterday.

De la Paz said Garcia will exchange posts with Police Community Relations head, Chief Insp. Adonis Rosales, at a formal turnover at Police Station 4 today.

Contacted by the DAILY STAR, Garcia refused to comment on her relief.

De la Paz said he has instructed Rosales, who was formerly the chief of Police Station 10, to be pro-active in the fight against crimes in the area covered by Police Station 4.   He also told Rosales to boost police visibility patrol in Barangays Villamonte, Estefania and Montevista.

Since the recent rape and attempted rape incidents happened in the Subdivisions, Rosales was also ordered by de la Paz to coordinate with the subdivision owners to improve their security measures.

De la Paz stressed that the relief of Garcia should serve as a warning to other police station commanders that he is serious in his earlier pronouncements that he will sack inefficient police commanders from their posts, and replace them with those who can perform well.

“Under the virtue of command responsibility, you are answerable for whatever things your personnel fail to do,” De la Paz said.

After the “adlaw sg pagdayaw (day of recognition)” on Monday, De la Paz said more heads “will roll”, especially those who receive the “Kalabasa (squash) award” as those with poor performance.

Two teenagers were killed, one of them was also raped on March 20 at the Villa Angela Subdivision. Six days after, a 22-year-old woman from Cebu City was shot at the house of her boyfriend at the Capitol Hills Subdivision when she fought back with a man who attempted to rape her.

A trisikad driver was arrested and charged for the death of the girls but his two companions have not been apprehended.  The police was able to identify the suspect in the attempted rape of the woman from Cebu City, but failed to arrest him.*APN
