Terra Dolce, Shakey’s
register victory anew

Terra Dolce pulled away in the fourth quarter to register an 83-72 victory over Orix 2001-2002, while Shakey’s 2009-2011 held off the  Legends 1989 & earlier with an 82-77 final score in the St. John’s Institute Alumni Basketball Friendship Cup at the Msgr. John B. Liu Activities Center.

Orix kept up with Terra Dolce for the first three quarters and even took the lead at 54-53 going to the fourth quarter.

But Orix succumbed to the offensive juggernaut by Peewee Demonteverde and Bol Manaloto scoring 15 and 10 points, respectively  in the payoff quarter.

Demonteverde finished with 32 points and Manaloto added 19 points.  Cris Javelosa picked up 10 points and Archie Co  had 9 points.

Jan jan Guevarra & Leonard Gallardo led Orix with 10 points apiece, Robert June Genovea  made 9, Danny Drilon and Ton Ton Chua  had 7   each and Miggy Estrella with 6 points.

Legends surprised their younger counterpart by taking a 19-12 first  quarter lead.

But Fr. Clarence Canafe was unstoppable with his inside drives netting him 12 points and with Luigi Coo providing additional 8 points, Shakey’s grab a 38-34 halftime lead .

Kevin Ramos and Raymund Andrade scored 16 points in the third quarter for the Legends but it was not enough to counter the balanced offensive by Shakey’s led by Canafe and Nikko Uy as they extended the lead to 63-54.

Coo  anchored the fastbreak attack and drilled two treys in the payoff quarter for several double digit lead,  but the Legends closed out the game with three straight triples to settle the final score.

Coo finished with 22 points, Fr. Canafe added 18, and Allen Dionela had 6 points.

Legends was led by Ramos with 22 points, Andrade 20, Ashley Maximo with 10 points,  and Omay Demonteverde,  9 points.*with a report from Stephen Tan
