Implement solid
waste act: Jardin

The president of the Liga nga mga Barangays in Bacolod City has warned that sanctions will be imposed on barangays that do not adhere strictly to the provisions of Republic Act 9003, or the Solid Waste Management Act, a press release from City Hall said.

Councilor Mona Dia Jardin said a solid waste budget has been proposed for the city’s 61 barangays but those who do not comply properly with RA 9003 will be subjected to sanctions.

The City’s Sanitary Landfill Board has drafted procedures to implement R.A. 9003 by calling on the Department of Public Service to strictly collect garbage in the city, the press release said.

The Board is also drafting the sanctions to be imposed on non-complying barangays to be made known after the budget has been released, it said.

The draft is expected to be finished next week and the sanitary landfill completed in a few more months, it said.

The sanctions to be imposed on non-complying barangays will be published soon to inform of all concerned, it added.*
