Governor issues EO on SIP

Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo issued recently Executive Order No. 19 creating the Ad Hoc committee on the creation of the localized Social Integration Program in the province.

The committee is headed by the private sector supported by non-government organizations, Armed Forces of the Philippines, and the Philippine National Police.

Degamo said he supports the program because it will complement projects for maintaining the peace and order in the province.

The governor assured the committee of sufficient funds for the immediate needs of the rebel returnees.

At least 15 rebel returnees will become pilot beneficiaries of the localized SIP initiated by the provincial government.

The committee is now preparing documents for the 15 pilot rebel returnees.

The governor said he hopes the program will encourage other members of the New People’s Army to surrender and avail of the government program.

The committee will determine the extent of participation of rebel returnees in the NPA and has decided that the cash assistance to be given to them will be based on this.

The fund to be used for the cash assistance to rebel returnees will be taken from the Assistance to Indigents in Crisis Situation.*MA
