USLS Alumni wins
in 5 sets vs. CSA-B

University of St. La Salle Alumni needed five sets to subdue Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod in Men’s A bracket of the 3rd Bro. Ceci Hojilla Memorial Cup Volleyball Championships held Saturday at the USLS College Covered Court.

Slipping past CSA-B’s defenses, 25-23 in the first set, the La Sallians went down in the second set, 26-28, as the Eagles held on and played tough to even the score.

The Augustinians continued to attack the La Sallians weak areas in the third set for a 25-20 advantage, but committed some costly errors in the fourth canto to yield the set at 21-25.

It was a tightly contested deciding set as both teams refused to back down, trading volleys and spikes with the La Sallians prevailing in the end, 15-12.

But while they managed to get past the CSA-B squad, USLS Alumni bowed to sister team USLS the next day, 19-25, 19-25, 24-26 to absorbed its first defeat in the tournament.

It was the third victory for the USLS Men’s A team as it crushed JBCLF, 25-6, 25-15, 25-12, Saturday morning, then tamed CSA-B, 25-9, 25-21, 25-12 in the afternoon.

In Women’s B competition, Silay City scored a lopsided three-set win over SJS-La Salle, 25-12, 25-9, 25-7, while USLS Sabado Club gave the latter its second defeat yesterday, 25-20, 27-25, 25-10.

The USLS volleybelles continued their winning ways yesterday in Women’s A bracket as they turned back CSA-B, 25-16, 25-8, 27-25.*NAB
