The 1st Cong. Albee Cup 2011 3rd District Games, featuring basketball and volleyball competitions among the five local government units in the Third District of Negros Occidental, will be launched tomorrow, 3 p.m., at the Victorias Coliseum in Victorias City.
The district-wide sporting event, organized by the office of Rep. Alfredo “Albee” Benitez, will be played in different venues of the District during weekends of September to December of this year.
Volleyball will be open to men and women teams, while basketball will have the open category and the tournament for 40 years old and above, a press release from the office of the congressman said.
Benitez, himself a sportsman, excelling in badminton, golf, and jetski racing, participating in local and foreign tournaments, said the sports program will further cement the unity of all sectors in the Third District.
The games will also discover potential players in volleyball and basketball, he Benitez said, adding that he is also looking at more sports development programs for the District, the press release said.
Tomorrow’s opening ceremony will kick off with a caravan of the participating teams from Talisay (the highway fronting Town & Country) proceeding to the Victorias Coliseum.
The opening program will be led by Benitez, who will be joined by Victorias Mayor Severo Palanca, E.B. Magalona Mayor David Lacson, Mayor Silay Mayor Jose Montelibano, Talisay Mayor Dr. Eric Saratan, and Murcia Mayor Andrew Montelibano.
