Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo has set aside P2.5 million for the livelihood projects of barangay health workers in the province, a Philippine Information Agency press release said.
The funds will be distributed to 28 BHW federations in the province at P100,000 for each federation to implement livelihood projects, Capitol sources said.
The funds were allocated in recognition of the BHW’s contribution in bringing health services to areas that need them.
Data from the Integrated Provincial Health Office show that there are now 3,900 BHWs in Negros Oriental.
Each worker receives from the provincial government an honorarium of P300 every month, or P3,500 per year, the Capitol sources said.
Meanwhile, medical kits are being distributed to the 557 barangays in the province. Each kit contains basic health tools, the press release added.*
