Noreco 2 disowns
insurance survey

The Negros Oriental 2 Electric Cooperative vehemently disowned an ongoing survey allegedly conducted by the cooperative for additional insurance benefits of electric consumers.

NORECO 2 Board chairman, James Yap Fontelo, said the alleged survey has no authority from the board, and could be conducted by persons who have ulterior motives for personal gains.

The cooperative got the survey form in Siaton, Negros Oriental that purported asks for support from electric consumers for the introduction of the health insurance benefits for NORECO 2 end users.

Fontelo said whoever is behind the survey should not carry the name of the cooperative to make it appear that it was sanctioned by NORECO 2.

Fontelo admitted that a certain insurance provider had approached him and other members of the board and asked to be allowed to attach the survey form to the electric bills of consumers.

He said he told them to submit their proposal during the general assembly.

Personally, however, Fontelo said he is not sold to the idea of collecting additional fees from electric consumers in the guise of extending additional benefits such as the mortuary benefit, and others. If this is approved, the additional charges will be added to the electric bill of the consumer, he said.*JG
