All employers and establishments are reminded of their responsibility to compensate their employees working on regular holidays like yesterday and today, Crispin Dannug, DOLE-6 OIC director said.
When workers are asked to work on a regular holiday, employers have to pay 200 percent of the workers basic wage for the first eight hours and employees working beyond eight hours are expected to receive additional 30 percent of their hourly rate, Dannug said.
He hopes that employers will not forget their responsibilities because workers have devoted their time to work for their companies, Dannug said.
Employers should also remember that their workers have families that depends on them and that giving them the right wage benefits is the utmost thing employers can provide to their workers, he added.
President Benigno Aquino III, has declared Aug.29 National Heroes’ Day and Aug. 30 Eid’l Fitr as regular holidays by virtue of Proclamation No. 84 and Proclamation No. 234 respectively.*LTG
