Superiority under the boards and relentless attack gave defending champion Team 5/Davies an 88-82 victory over Team 7/MS Tablet in the championship of Bacolod Tay Tung High School Alumni Basketball League at the Po Hang gym.
RB Chua powered his way inside with 18 points, hitting three from the arc while partner Carl Stephen Edemne added 16 markers, 10 of them in the decisive quarter. Guard Aaron Paul Guevarra delivered 12 points and Chibon Uy contributed 10 more points with his lane incursions.
MS Tablet sizzled in the first quarter as the squad registered a 31-12 lead, but Team 5 turned the table with a 23-14 run in the second canto as Chua hit 12 points.
Uy, Aaron Paul and John Simon Guevarra made their moves in the third quarter as Team 5 took over the third with a 26-17 spurt and T5 had the lead for the first time, 62-61.
With the momentum on their side, the Davies Painters closed the game with a 27-20 windup negating the 13-point output of Peter Galon and Kim Flores’ 11 points.
Pol Morales managed to deliver eight points after playing hurt with a foot injury, but the rest failed to step up to overcome the tough defense of the defending champions.
Team 6/Mang Inasal salvaged the third place as it grilled Team 3/Chowking, 63-56.
Alson Lim scattered 10 first quarter points as the Grill Masters ran away with a 21-8 lead. Bobby Yap spearheaded the next the rampage in the second quarter with two triples for a 37-21 dominance.
Chowking bounced back with a 21-16 third quarter rally and a 14-12 final push but were never really into the game.
James Kho was held to nine points and the rest scored not more than eight markers for an anemic show.
