79th IB has new commander
BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

The new commander of the 79th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army took over yesterday at the battalion headquarters in Siaton, Negros Oriental.

Outgoing commander, Col. Pio Diñoso III, relinquished his post to Lt. Col. Marion Sison, at the turnover rites officiated by Col. Jonas Sumagaysay, acting division commander of the 3rd Infantry Division.

Diñoso, who had served at the 79th IB, has been transferred to the Philippine Army headquarters as executive assistant of Maj. Gen. Emmanuel Bautista, who is now army commanding general.

In his exit speech, Diñoso thanked his officials and men for their tireless efforts in pushing for peace in their area of coverage, which is from Manjuyod town to Basay, and cited the support and cooperation of local government units, local officials and representatives from various sectors.

He received the Military Merit Medal Award for his accomplishments during his stint.

The Philippine National Police, the Commission on Human Rights, the Department of Education in Siaton, the non-government organization, Oriental Negros Children’s Advocacy Network, and the 302nd Infantry Brigade based in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental, also awarded plaques of appreciation to Diñoso for services rendered to the province of Negros Oriental.*JFP
