AsPac Glock Invitational

Rising above another top-level international shooting competition, Stephen Hinojales and Jannette Gonzaga of Gun Club of Negros Occidental ruled the field and captured titles in separate events of the Asia Pacific Glock Invitational recently held in Mactan, Cebu.

Hitting the targets with accuracy and marksmanship worthy of the title, Hinojales bagged the Glock overall championship crown and finished first runner-up in Production division, while Gonzaga reigned in the Lady Standard division to capture the title.

GCNO shooter Talisay Vice Mayor Nilo Lizares won first runner-up in the Standard division, while teammate Lean de Leon, was No. 1 in Junior division and second runner-up in Open category, and Andy Gonzaga, first runner-up in Senior category, Production division.

Futsal team to compete in AFC

The quest for football glory for the Philippines continues as the men’s national team set their eyes on the 2012 Asian Football Confederation Championship set in Bangkok, Thailand on February 21-26.

The competition was originally slated on November 26 to December 1 but heavy flooding in Bangkok prompted the organizers to reset the schedule of the competition, reports from the wires said.

The Philippines is bracketed in Group A, together with Indonesia, Thailand and Myanmar.

Volleyball center
eyed in Cebu

CEBU CITY – The Cebu Volleyball Association, after hosting the biggest province-wide volleyball tournament in the Philippines, is planning for the establishment of a volleyball academy in Cebu.

Glenn Soco, co-chairman of the Gov. Gwen Garcia Unity Volleyball Cup, said they will send a proposal for a volleyball academy to the Philippine Volleyball Federation.

Soco said the academy will also serve as the training venue for the “proposed” Visayas training pool.
