A house helper was killed and four others were injured when a bus collided with a pick-up vehicle and also hit a tricycle in Silay City, Negros Occidental at about 5 p.m. Sunday.
Police identified the casualty as Evangeline Coniendo, 59, of Brgy. Makiling in Sagay City, Negros Occidental.
Coniendo was rushed to the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital where she died while being treated at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
Injured were pick-up driver Jonel Mercado, 27, of Sitio San Roque in Brgy. Salamanca, Toboso town, Negros Occidental, Ray Fuentes and Evelita Fuentes, both 49, and residents of Villa Angela Subdivision in Bacolod City, were also rushed to the TLJPH, the police said.
Tricycle driver Romeo Amoresquita, 31, of Brgy. Suba in Calatrava town, Negros Occidental also sustained injuries in his face, the police also said.
Investigation conducted by Police Officer 3 Rey Paloma showed that the bus with plate number FWW-803 was heading north of the road at Hacienda Bagroy in Brgy. Rizal and tried to overtake another tricycle, when it collided with the pick-up vehicle of Mercado, on which Coniendo and the Fuenteses were riding.
The bus driven by Dominador Parba of Sagay City, Negros Occidental, and owned by the Villacar Transit, continued running and hit the rear portion of the tricycle of Amoresquita.
The bus, the tricycle and the pick-up vehicles were damaged and are now impounded at the Silay City police station.
Parba, who is now detained at the Silay City police detention cell, apologized to the family of Coniendo. He is facing charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, multiple physical injuries and damage to properties.*APN
