2 killed, 13 injured in mishap
BY ADRIAN NEMES III

Two were killed and at least 13 injured when a ten-wheeler cargo truck collided with a passenger bus Tuesday at the highway in Brgy. Binicuil, about 8 kilometers from Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.

Killed were truck driver Frnacisco Loberas, 55, and his passenger Paquito Basyao, 60, both of Brgy. Malingin in Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental, traffic investigator, Police Officer 2 Jesus Tuazon, said yesterday.

Tuazon said it took almost an hour before rescuers were able to retrieve the victims from the wreckage of the truck. He said they sustained multiple injuries and were rushed to the Lorenzo D. Zayco District Hospital, where they were declared dead on arrival.

Aside from Loberas and Basyao, 13 passengers of the bus owned by the Vallacar transit were also treated at the same hospital but they were immediately released as they only had minor injuries, the police said.

Investigation showed that the bus of Noel Pedrosa, 45, of Homesite Subdivision in Brgy. Montevista, Bacolod, was heading south in Sitio Naga when it tried to overtake another vehicle and collided with the approaching truck.

This is the third accident involving buses owned by Vallacar Transit in Negros Occidental this month.

On Thursday last week, 20 passengers were injured when a bus of Vallacar Transit fell on its side in San Enrique town while avoiding another bus owned by the same company.

Four days after, a house helper was killed while four other were injured when a bus of Vallacar Transit collided with a pick-up vehicle and a tricycle in Silay City.*APN
