‘Swertres’ financiers,
10 others arrested

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

Police arrested a suspected financier of the illegal numbers game “swertres”, his wife, and 10 others about midnight Wednesday in a raid in Canlaon City, Negros Oriental.

Policemen, armed with a search warrant, swooped down on the suspects, identified as Felman Pipino alias Bobot, his wife, Myrna, and 10 others believed to be “swertres” coordinators/ushers, at the couple’s house at Greenhills Subdivision in Barangay Mabigo, Canlaon City, PNP provincial director, Senior Supt. Edward Carranza, said.

An initial report to Carranza showed that law enforcers recovered P234,782 cash money in different denominations, believed to be proceeds from the illegal numbers game, “swertres”, during the raid.

Also confiscated were voluminous tally sheets, betting stubs, calculators and other items purportedly used in the illegal gambling operations.

The search warrant was issued by Negros Oriental Regional Trial Court Executive Judge Fe Lualhati Bustamante, the police said.

The suspects are now detained pending the filing of criminal charges against them for violation of Republic Act 9287.*JFP
