Bayan hits guv
for ‘no-show’

Bayan Negros said in a press release that Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. has snubbed peasants and farm workers led by them, the National Federation of Sugar Workers, and Kilusang Mambubukid ng Pilipinas more than 12 times and was a “no-show” at a people’s dialog they sought at the Capitol yesterday.

It said the only reply by his secretary is that the governor is not available when the schedule comes.

More than a thousand people led by BAYAN, KARAPATAN and NFSW trooped to the governor’s office yesterday afternoon for a scheduled dialog, the press release said, adding that unlike his brother, former governor Joseph Marañon who was quick to face the people in dialogs, Alfredo Marañon seems allergic to the plight of the poor.

His Negros First Program is nothing more but an agenda for the rich and powerful, it also said.*
