Area VII collects 4 gold medals

Palarong Pambansa gold medalist Richie Joy Cabanyog led Area VII's the early surge in athletics as he topped, once again, the secondary boys' shot put in the first day of competition of the 2011 Provincial Sports and Cultural Meet at the Panaad Stadium in Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod City .

Cabanyog, hurled the iron ball to a distance of 12.23 meters to capture the gold, while Gilbert Dave Pamplona of Area IV settled for silver with his 10.62m throw and Kris Ian Dolendo of Area X, the bronze medal with a distance of 9.79m.

Remark Dela Cruz crowned himself as the fastest athlete in this year's meet in secondary boys' competition as he completed the 100-meter race in 11.27 seconds for another golden finish for Area VII.

Silay bags Albee Cup
40-Up basketball title

Maximizing their homecourt advantage, Silay beat Victorias, , prove to its billing as the team to beat Victorias, 91-75, in Saturday's Game 3 to capture the crown in 40-Up division of the 1st Tercer Distrito Cong. Albee Cup Basketball Tournament at Kansilayan Gym in Silay City .

Victorias take an early 23-14 lead in the first quarter as Albert Smalley scored 8 points. Silay, however, bounced back in the second quarter with Rex Bayer and Vonnie Villarias taking charge of the Silaynon's offense to cut the lead by one point, 41-40.

In the third quarter, former WNU Mustangs Edilberto Calvo gave Victorias a three-point lead as he converted two free throws then followed it up with another two points as Silay failed score in the ensuing play.
