Mayor orders crackdown
on lewd shows in Sibulan


Mayor Marcela Bartoces of Sibulan, Negros Oriental, vowed to close down entertainment bars in her town once the operators are caught violating the law prohibiting lewd shows.

Bartoces said she is serious in implementing the law after her office received various complaints against these entertainment bars.

She had a meeting with the operators and managers of at least seven entertainment bars in Sibulan town last Friday. The mayor said she wanted to impose a dress code for the employees working in entertainment bars. These establishments will be required to follow the dress code especially for the lady workers.

She clarified that the dress code is one of her plans in encouraging the operators of entertainment bars in Sibulan to have decent and not a vulgar shows. She said waitress can wear sexy attire, but still decent, so that they can be respected by their costumers despite the nature of there job.

She is hoping that operators and managers will agree on her plan during there schedule meeting next week.

The mayor said she is trying her best to preserve the good image of Sibulan considering that they are also known as the pilgrim town.  Aside from being a pilgrim town, she also wanted Sibulan to be known for its tourism destination like Lake Balinsasayao.

Bartoces said a team will be created to monitor these entertainment bars in her town.

The mayor said some reports received by his office revealed that some entertainment bars presented nude shows during special days only.

She will be checking on the lady workers of these entertainment bars in order to determine if they are not minors, or are forced to work as entertainers.

She said the support and vigilance of the community to clean the town of Sibulan is very important.* MA
