Province using nat’l database
for improved livestock services

The Provincial Veterinary Office of Negros Occidental has started to use the Philippine Animal Health Information System, a computer-based tool to process and store electronic data on animal health information management, Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Renante Decena said yesterday.

The Bureau of Animal Industry designed Phil-AHIS to ensure proper disease management through  prevention strategies and  information campaigns, Decena said.

All animal management projects like immunization, check ups, and deworming are recorded in the database. This will also monitor people in the field who conduct these activities. From there, the regional office and the BAI can trace the progress of each province throughout the country, he said.

This system will serve as a centralized disease reporting system for investigation and monitoring of disease outbreak with relevant formulation of correct disease management, control, and prevention strategies, Decena added.

Decena said the PVO will not be able to find difficulty in evaluating progress and supervising animal health. The devise will be able to store data for 10 years, which means they can assess their progress yearly, he added.*LTG
