GSIS opens scholarship

Government employees are again offered a chance to help one's free college education through the 2011-2012 Scholarship Raffle Program of the Government Service Insurance System.

Winning government employees may nominate anyone who is an incoming college freshman or an enrolled college student who can enjoy up to P20,000 in tuition and miscellaneous fees per semester, plus a monthly stipend of P2,000, a press release from the Philippine Information Agency-Negros Oriental said.

Winners will be chosen via an electronic raffle draw. There are 200 total slots available nationwide, of which 56 are allotted for the National Capital Region, 64 for Luzon, 37 for Visayas, and 43 for Mindanao.

Chosen scholars of the winning employee are free to choose any course they wish to enroll in, the press release said.

The scholarship will take effect for the duration of the scholar's chosen course provided that the scholar is able to maintain an average of 85 percent with no failing grade in any of the subjects enrolled per semester.

Application forms are available in any GSIS office nationwide, or may be downloaded from the GSIS website (www.gsis.gov.ph).

Application period is until April 29 and the raffle date is on May 18.

The GSIS file copy of the application forms must be submitted to the nearest GSIS office not later than April 29, and only one raffle entry is allowed per GSIS member, the press release added.*
