Tanghal 5 opens at USLS

Thespians from different parts of the country gathered at the University of St. La Salle Coliseum in Bacolod City for the opening ceremonies of Tanghal 5, the National University Theater Festival, which will last until Saturday.

The first Tanghal in the province in 2007 is back to where it started five years ago, a Philippine Information Agency press release said.

USLS Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Dr. Marie Therese Jochico, in behalf of Br. Ray Suplido, president, welcomed the participants being one of the hosting venues of the theater festival other than the Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod and the West Negros University.

Marichu Tellano, head of Planning, Policy Formulation and Program Division of NCCA, said as part of the National Arts Month celebration, they are working  to upgrade artists and cultural workers to be of international standards, and create an event that will invite foreigners such as the Phare Ponleu Selpak, a group of circus performers from Cambodia, the press release said.

The National University Theater Festival is a flagship project of the NCCA Committee on Dramatic Arts where they provide a creative platform for theater artists to meet and showcase their best performances, Rudy Reveche, Teatrokon-West Visayas Theater Network president, who delivered the rationale of the event, said.*
