off to Cebu contest

FIDE Master Sander Severino and Shell Active Chess champion Marvin Ting will see action in two Cebu chess tournaments, the 1st Bombi Aznar Memorial Open Chess Tournament scheduled February 19-21, and the Cebu City Charter Day Open Chess Tournament on February 26-28.

These tournaments are all scheduled to be played at the Elizabeth Mall in Cebu City.

A total cash prize of P50,000 is set for the1st Bombi Aznar Memorial Open Chess Tournament with P20,000 going to the first place winner while a total of P288,000 with the lion's share of P100,000 will be awarded to the champion of the Cebu City Charter Day Open Chess Tournament.

With these huge cash prizes at stake, Grandmasters, International Masters (IMs) and National Masters in the country are expected to flock in these competitions.

Meanwhile, Severino and Ting’s entry in these tournaments are bankrolled by the Silay City government under Mayor Jose Montelibano.*
