Tawo-tawo festival tilt

The Bayawan National High School contingent romped off with the Grand Championship in Bayawan City’s Tawo-Tawo Festival 2011, at the Integrated Business Center grounds Thursday.

Senior Tourism Operations Officer Myla Mae Bromo-Abellana, who attended the Festival that coincided with the 2nd Monthly Meeting of the Sidlakang Negros Association of Tourism Officers hosted by Bayawan City at the IBC Conference Hall, said four other contingents vied for the Festival prizes: Barangays Maninihon, Boyco, Kalumboyan (3rd Place, 3rd Place in Street dance, and Effective Use of Indigenous Materials) and Tinago (2nd Place, 1st Place for Street dance, Best Costume and Best Tawo-Tawo Higante).

Abellana said BNHS also bagged second place in Streetdance, Best in Musicality, Best Choreography and Choreographer, and Best Arch.

The all-Cebuano panel of judges consisted of Ricky Ballesteros, Jun Cabillar, Victor Cuenco, Isagani Villarojo, Rikki Climaco, Marti Ybañez, and Oliver Figueroa, he said.

Meanwhile, GMA-7 celebrities Iza Calzado, Angelika de la Cruz, Will Devaughn and Anna Marie Igpit staged a show in the evening at the IBC grounds, on the eve of the Bayawan City fiesta of its patron Sto. Tomas de Villanueva, Abellana added.*
