Bayawan cops
tested for drugs

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

Twenty-seven of the 34 members of the police force in Bayawan City, Negros Oriental, were subjected to a surprise illegal drug testing Saturday led by provincial police director, Senior Supt. Rey Lyndon Lawas.

The drug testing, conducted by the Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory, headed by Senior Insp. Josephine Llena, followed the recent arrest of PO2 Victorio Rizaldo, a Bayawan City policeman believed to be involved in the illegal drugs trade.

Rizaldo, along with civilian Florante Bayabado Taburada and Bayawan City police auxiliary Renwil Cadungog, were arrested last week during a drug buy-bust operation that yielded two packets of suspected shabu and a cache of firearms, ammunition and explosives.

PNP: Man hangs self
in Vallahermoso jail

BY JUDY F. PARTLOW

The body of a man was found hanging in the bathroom of the detention cell of the police station in Vallehermoso, Negros Oriental, early Sunday morning, in what initial police investigation tagged a suicide case.

The victim, identified as Juan Narciso, 57, a farmer and resident of Sitio Payawan, Barangay Tagbino in Vallehermoso, allegedly hanged himself sometime between 4 a.m. and 5.am. Sunday, a police report said.

Vallehermoso police chief Insp. Neolie Laturnas said Narciso apparently tore his jacket in strips and tied them together, to make the noose he tied around his neck to end his life.
