Bacolod Interior and Local Government officer-in-charge, Dino Ponsaran, yesterday said the seminar is a component of the Barangay Newly-Elected Officials Program of the DILG in partnership with the Liga ng mga Barangay of Bacolod City.

Ponsaran said the first component of the seminar is titled “Smooth Transition,” the second is “Laying the Foundation for Grassroot Empowerment for Accountable and Transparent (GREAT) Barangays”,  the third is “Alliance Building”, and the fourth is “Sharpening the Saw” wherein the barangay officials will undergo specialized training depending on the demands and needs of their barangay.

He said they are orienting the barangay officials on the basics of barangay governance, foundation on local legislation, development planning, barangay finance and budgeting, and community mobilization.

Ponsaran said the activity aims to have the barangays formulate their barangay development agenda and barangay capacity development agenda, and they hope that there will be improvements in the way barangay officials run their units.

Ponsaran also said Secretary to the Mayor Rodel Parcon talked to the barangay officials about the Solid Waste Management plan of the city Monday and added that they hope the barangays will give emphasis to the SWM program in forming their agenda for development.

The orientation-seminar is being conducted from Feb. 21-23 for the first batch of barangay officials, and on Feb. 24-26 for the second batch, and Feb. 26-March 2 for the third batch.*CGS
