Department of Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz said the deadline for the mandatory payment of the 13th month pay lapsed two weeks ago, but DOLE regional offices have been stepping up efforts to demand compliance with this general labor standard, a press release from the agency said.
This was prompted by numerous complaints received by the DOLE from workers all over the country, the press release said.

Labor law exemptions
for investors bucked
Department of Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz has bucked proposals that would exempt large-scale investors from complying with labor laws and standards, including minimum wages for needy or poor workers, a DOLE press release said.
Baldoz was reacting to an online article which proposed the setting-up of special labor employment zones in very poor regions of the country, where large scale investors can engage in business and be exempted from compliance with labor laws, including minimum wages, in order to accelerate the country’s economic growth.
