2 rebels surrender

Two men who claimed to be members of the Communist Army of the Philippines-New People’s Army operating in southern Negros Oriental voluntarily surrendered to the 79th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army on Sunday.

Lt. Col. Pio Diñoso III, 79th IB commanding officer, identified the two as Joan Gajeloma, alias JR, 18, of Barangay Najandig in Zamboanguita, Negros Oriental, and Ronel de los Santos, alias Ching, 25, of Barangay Calango, also in Zamboanguita.

Both are members of the 2nd platoon of the NPA’s Komiteng Rehiyon Sentral Bisayas-South East Front, Diñoso said.

Diñoso said the two voluntarily surrendered to operating troops of the 79th IB led by 1Lt. Lito Orbita, company commander of the Charlie Company, in Sitio Katubahan, Barangay Tayak in Siaton town, Negros Oriental.

The Philippine Army is expected to help facilitate financial aid to them as part of the government’s program to help former rebels start a new life as they integrate in mainstream society.*JFP
